The official MCP Registry stores metadata, and other directories read it[1]. Of the other 25 directories, 2 read it now, 1 has paused, and 1 is curated by hand and does not copy it automatically. Publishing once reaches the first group. The remaining 21 each take a submission of their own.
This is the registry. Its docs say it is meant to be read mainly by downstream aggregators, such as marketplaces[1], which are expected to pull from its public API about once an hour[2].
Glama lists registry servers as connectors. For a connector linked to the registry, registry updates replace its name, description and URL by default until the owner claims it[3]. A connector page exists for a registry name[4]. The Add Server form and the Dockerfile check are separate.
Submissions paused since Sept 3, 2026. No date to reopen. Its submit page says servers published to the registry will be picked up automatically once it is back[5].
A GitHub collaborator wrote on the onboarding thread that adding a new server is still a manual curation step, and that once a server is onboarded its new versions sync from the registry[7].
The other 21 need their own submission
We found no statement on these directories' own pages that they read the registry, as of . Grouped by how each one takes a submission:
A missing statement is not proof. If one of these starts reading the registry, this table changes and the Last checked date moves with it.
Check one yourself
Two requests show whether a registry name has reached the registry and Glama. A 404 means it has not.
Terminal
# In the official registry? (the name is URL-encoded: / becomes %2F)
curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}\n" \
"https://registry.modelcontextprotocol.io/v0.1/servers/io.github.github%2Fgithub-mcp-server/versions/latest"
# Did Glama list it as a connector?
curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}\n" \
"https://glama.ai/mcp/connectors/io.github.github/github-mcp-server"
Run on for that name: 200 from the registry and 200 from Glama[4]. A name that does not exist returned 404 from both. The registry path follows its aggregator docs[2].
ManyCP's free checker looks up 10 directories for a repo in one go, with no signup. Where a directory has no public lookup, it says so.
